isolated from the rest of Vietnam and authorities commit
ongoing human rights violations there against our indigenous
people such as the following: 13 July 2006 the police
in Dak Lak province tortured to death a Montagnard Degar
Christian in police station and on 14 June 2006 Vietnamese
authorities arrested the wife of a UNHCR returnee. |

BRAIN DAMAGE AND A SLOW DEATH FOR “TORTURED” MONTAGNARD DEGAR MAN: ANOTHER NEEDS URGENT MEDICAL TREATMENT
His health
deteriorated and authorities fearing he would die in custody
released him to his family on May 28, 2006 . He is now
near death at Kien Giang Hospital close to Ho Chi Minh
City . Information received indicates he will not live
long due to his injuries and inhumane treatment he received
in prison. |

government has ordered 20 trucks of soldiers from the
province of Gialai, Daklak, Danang, Nhatrang, and Phu
Yen to the site in order to send the protesters back
to their villages. And at the present time, the three
villages of Bon Bai, Bon Pung and Bon Ju are surrounded
by heavily armed soldiers. |

This type of repression indicates any Montagnard Degar who simply owns a mobile cell phone will be subjected to arrest based solely on race and ethnicity. It is feared this discrimination by Vietnamese authorities will add to the tensions building in the region. |
